Victorinox Tinker

I may not be a massive Victorinox collector but I can definitely appreciate the quality of products that they offer. I have owned a few Swiss Army Knives throughout my life but currently only own the Classic SD and this Tinker that I picked up one day at Target in a knife/sharpener combo. This is the second and last post that will be posted while I am out of town so I am excited to get back and finish editing my posts for next week.

Opinion:

Pros:

Like most Victorinox products you are familiar with, the Tinker offers a wide variety of tools in a very compact frame. If it weren't for the lack of a corkscrew, the Tinker would be my first thought when visualizing a SAK. All in all, this is a really good knife to have around. I personally actually prefer the addition of a Phillips head screwdriver over a corkscrew as it is just more useful in my life. I like how the knife feels in your hand, the fit feels right and for light to medium tasks I feel confident in the Tinker's ability to get the job done. The addition of two sizes of flat-head screwdrivers really rounds out the Tinker and ensures that it lives up to that name by allowing you to tinker with a wide variety of parts. In addition, the small blade will help you process smaller tasks where the larger blade might be a bit overkill without sacrificing your grip or handle on the blade. Lastly, because Swiss Army Knives lend themselves to a loose style of carry, the incorporation of a split-ring attachment point is critical.

Cons:

I really don't have a lot to complain about when it comes to the Tinker, obviously, I like pocket clips on my knives but with these knife styles, it just isn't in the picture. I also think that I would prefer Alox scales like those that are on other models just for added grip, but hey, Victorinox offers plenty of models to choose from.

Conclusion:

Ultimately, this is one of the few times I wish that I carried a pocket organizer. It would just make it easier to carry certain items like the Tinker. I also recommend that you buy it through Target if you can just to get the sharpener for essentially free as it is also $22 on Amazon and some other sites. The sharpener might not be the greatest, but hey free is free. Anyways, as I said, the Tinker is a good knife that is really calling out to me, trying to get me to carry it more frequently. I will finish with one final thought, I do think of Swiss Army Knives as knives first and foremost. Most of the models come with a knife as its main tool and the other tools are more of a secondary addition in my mind. For some people, these are thought of more like a multi-tool, which I can understand, however, in my mind I view this through the lens of a knife and everything else is just a nice bonus.
