Pros:
This knife is going to have some of the same pros I list for the Kershaw Clash that I previewed here, but I will go ahead and list everything out. Just like the Clash, the Brawler features the SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism that I really enjoy deploying. In addition the scales are very comfortable in your hand. I am also a big fan of tanto style blades for some reason. It isn't that they are any more useful in my life I just like the look of the blade.
Cons:
I do have a few complaints about this blade which somewhat disappointing me. The first is the location of the flipper tab. It is located right underneath a small kick out at the top of the handle. This causes your finger to catch the handle during blade deployment on most occasions. By no means am I ripping my finger off but this is definitely a design choice that puzzles me as it seems to serve no purpose. I have spoken before about the fact that I actually like liner locks. However, most knives feature a small notch opposite of the lock that allows your thumb to quickly reach and activate the lock. This knife is different and the entire handle is flush which forces you to insert your thumb into the gap and wedge the lock free. I have not had any problems with cutting my thumb but it is an uncomfortable maneuver.
Conclusion:
This knife is by no means the worst thing I have ever carried, but it does have some serious flaws. I think my biggest issue is that if Kershaw didn’t make a couple of choices that I highlight above I would really like this knife. I am just happy I picked it up on a really good sale.
